Northern Saw-Whet Owl Fine Art Linoleum Block Letterpress Print
Often heard but rarely seen, Northern saw-whet owls are fairly abundant in the evergreen woods nearby. They are the smallest owls in my area, making this print slightly larger than life-size!
I wanted to celebrate this tiny owl in a night time setting, when he is most active. I chose a metallic gold/copper ink to create a luminous feel, with the color changing depending what angle you look at it, mimicking shifting moonlight.
This five color print on lush, 100% cotton paper was created from three linoleum cuts. One of the colors (a matte black) was used as a base for the metallic ink, creating a more reflective top layer. The circle in the background was made from two layers- midnight black with a blue overlay.
Print easily fits into an 8” x 10” mat or frame.
